I am RoxyBee’s husband, Gene. This weekend I participated in a Spartan Beast Race at Mountain Creek in NJ.
I’ve run in dozens of endurance races and the Spartan Beast was as tough as they come. During the race, I had some really high highs and some really low lows. I wanted to stop, a lot. I wanted to lay down on the side of the trail and go to sleep, a lot. I’ve learned from all my crazy endeavors that the pain will stop. The lows will go away. The nauseous feeling will go away. The wounds will heal. Your mind is what is holding you back. Your body will keep moving. Have an UNbeatable mind!
The Spartan race just like others gives me the confidence to know I can push through anything and fight. This is a mental game. Yes, you need to train your body physically, but you will have a lot of conversations in your head during a race. It is very easy to give in and walk or stop. Don’t do it. I finished 213th out of 3,059 people in my morning time slot.
